Councillor pushes for green bin refund after four weeks of missed collections

Liberal Democrat councillor Will Frass has written to council bosses calling for residents in his Timperley North Ward to receive a refund of their Green Bin Charge after their green bins were not collected for up to four weeks. Residents across Trafford are now charged £45 per year for garden waste collections, a measure that cash-strapped Trafford Council argues will bring in around £1 million each year.
Councillor Frass said, "The service on Granby Road, for example, completely disappeared as soon as Trafford Labour brought the charge in. That's obviously not good enough, so I think the council should refund my residents."
The reason given to Councillor Frass for the missed collections was roadworks in the area, but despite the work, other bin crews collecting blue, black and grey bins were all able to gain access.
Councillor Frass said, "The Highways crews were able to move to give the bin crews access. So this idea that road works stopped collections is just not true. The crew clearly didn't think it was worth the wait on the day. For multiple weeks in a row, Granby Road residents have not received a service they are now paying for. A refund is the least Trafford Council could do while they work out how to get the basics right with these green bin collections."
