July 2025 Full Council Update

TLD
Mayor Group

We had a busy Full Council this week with a lot to report back on, including another Liberal Democrat success!

This post is a longer read than our other news stories as it goes through all the debates and discussions, so put aside 10 minutes with your morning drink and enjoy!

Something to note before we begin; Cllr Jane Brophy will be in the Mayor's seat for the next year, so will be chairing Full Council meetings rather than debating with the rest of the group.

Auto-enrolment For Free School Meals

Lib Dems called for expanding free school meals across Trafford

Free

Trafford Liberal Democrat Councillors Shaun Ennis and Meena Minnis proposed and secured unanimous passage of a motion introducing automatic enrolment for free school meals.

Leveraging existing Council and DWP data, the motion ensures eligible pupils are enrolled seamlessly, removing application barriers and stigma, expanding access, and supporting disadvantaged children across Trafford.

See how Shaun presented our case in Full Council below

Broken Speeding Signs

Lib Dems ask why Labour is slow on speeding vehicles

WF Speeding

Will Frass challenged the Council about all the broken speeding signs and the timeline for getting them replaced. Labour admitted they may get removed and not replaced at all.

Oliver McGowan Training

Labour admits it 'wasn't good enough' on neuro-diversity training

OM

A question about Council's failure to deliver legally required neuro-diversity training from Simon Lepori hit a raw nerve, with Labour admitting 'it wasn't good enough'.

No New Secondary School in South Trafford

Labour & Tories need educating on the shortage of school places in South Trafford

A boy at school in distress.

This motion was a missed opportunity as it failed to acknowledge the problems made by governments, both Blue and Red, over the years to deal with the school place emergency in Trafford.

There was also no mention of the SEND crisis and lack of future planning in Trafford from the Tories in the motion.

See Simon Lepori deliver our responce to the Tory motion in council.

"Live Well" Up and Running

Lib Dems acknowledge the professionals behind the initiative

Jules Bike

While Labour wanted to pat themselves on the back, Cllr Julian Newgrosh urged us to remember the professionals and community activists that have driven the "Live Well" program across Trafford in the community hubs, and in particular, Broomwood Community Centre.

Labour Try to Celebrate Their Failures

Seems they forgot about the Winter Fuel Allowance, National Insurance hikes, Welfare U-turns and a 7.5% council tax rise!

An elderly couple working out their finances.

In an absolutely shocking move, Labour wanted to celebrate its first year in Government, while forgetting all the political choices that have caused so much misery.

After removing Winter Fuel Allowance, National Insurance hikes, Welfare U-turns and a 7.5% council tax rise, Cllr Frass argued these points and said the only way to get Britain's economy growing is to get the UK back in the Single Market.

But What did the Greens Do?

They certainly didn't propose an issue that mattered for debate!

The Green Party wanted to debate acronyms and the use of technical terms in Council documents, which did not need debating and was another example of the Green Party failing to stand up for the issues that matter.

And Finally...

Labour get a nasty suprise from within their own ranks!

Labour are under pressure after Cllr Ulrich Savary voted against them on key votes during Wednesday Full Council meeting, and it turned out he had already resigned!

That's it! You're Up-To-Date with the July Full Council
