Action at last on the Pelican Inn and Altrincham Lodge

For years, the Pelican Inn and Altrincham Lodge have been left to fall into disrepair. The derelict buildings have become a major eyesore, while residents have had to put up with fires, anti-social behaviour and an unsafe site on their doorstep.

Despite repeated concerns from local residents, the site was neglected for years under Trafford’s Labour-run Council and no effective action was taken.

It was only after strong lobbying from the Liberal Democrats, including a letter to the Chief Executive of Trafford Council, that enforcement action finally began.

The Council has now served notice on the owners, requiring them to either refurbish or demolish the buildings. The owners have six months to comply.

Broadheath Liberal Democrat campaigner Barbara has been pushing for action with the support of Cllrs Ulrich Savary and Jane Brophy.

Barbara said: “This site has been neglected for far too long under Labour. Residents have been left to live with an eyesore, fires and anti-social behaviour while the buildings continued to deteriorate.

“Action should have been taken years ago. It was only after strong and sustained lobbying from the Liberal Democrats that Trafford Council finally served notice on the owners.

“This is an important step, but a notice is only useful if it is properly enforced. The owners now have six months to either refurbish or demolish the buildings.

“I will continue to monitor the situation and keep pushing Trafford Council. Residents have waited long enough, and there must be no more delays or excuses. We will not stop until this site is finally dealt with.”
