Huge Warehouses Near Dairyhouse Lane? Labour Says Yes.

This is the view from the Trans Pennine Trail towards the woodland near Dairyhouse Lane.

But if Trafford Labour gets its way, this landscape could be replaced by huge industrial warehouses.

The land has been earmarked for industrial and warehousing development in Trafford’s Local Plan. Shockingly, the Green Party voted with Labour to approve it.

This area is precious. It contains mature woodland, valuable peat that stores carbon and helps tackle climate change, and habitats supporting a rich variety of wildlife.

The impact would not stop at the site boundary. Huge warehouses could also bring more cars and HGVs onto local roads that are already heavily congested.

Barbara Gerard, Liberal Democrat campaigner for Broadheath, said: “This is not unused wasteland. It is a valuable natural area enjoyed by local people and home to woodland and wildlife.

“Residents already spend too much time stuck in traffic. Building huge warehouses here risks adding even more cars and HGVs to our already congested roads.

“We need new jobs and investment, but development must be in the right places. Destroying this area and making local traffic worse is not the answer.”

Cllr Ulrich Savary added: “Labour cannot claim to be serious about climate change while putting woodland and carbon-storing peat at risk.

“We should build on previously developed brownfield land first, not destroy important natural areas. Once this woodland and peatland are destroyed, we cannot simply replace them. Once they are gone, they are gone forever.”
