Labour Town Hall bosses say the idea of new schools for South Trafford needs to be “put to bed”
Speaking after the meeting Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader councillor Will Frass said, “Listening the Labour ruling group it’s little wonder people across Timperley, Hale Barns and South Trafford are so concerned about the lack of school places in our area.”
“On the one hand, the Council is pushing ahead with thousands of new homes on Timperley Wedge, but on the other hand we’ve just listened to the Labour Leader of the Council say that he wants to “put the idea of a new school for South Trafford to bed.”
“I think that is extremely insulting to my Timperley residents.”
Councillor Frass also challenged the Committee to consider families in the Altrincham area who already have a child at a local school who then get asked to send their older child to a school elsewhere in Trafford.
Councillor Frass said, “I’ve been supporting parents who are really worried because Trafford expects an 11 year-old to travel on three different buses and trams, just to get to school, never mind getting home in the dark.”
“Are you really saying ‘we have enough places’ if lots of these placements can be overturned by an appeal from families who are being asked to take an unreasonable school place?”
